8 Fast Tips for Surviving Hyper-Inflation

By Timothy Gamble

Here are eight fast tips for surviving a period of very high inflation, along with links to previous articles by me that go into much greater detail on each tip. All links are to pages on the Dystopian Survival website.

1- Get your finances in order. Reduce your living expenses as much as possible. If you are in debt, try to pay it off. Refinance larger debt (such as mortgages) into low fixed rate loans if possible. Look for ways to increase your income. (link to article

2- Stock up on canned & dry foods, water, medicine, soap, toothpaste, first aid supplies, matches, firewood, shoes, clothing, and any other necessities you might need that will store for at least a year without spoiling. Consider buying your next set of tires now. (link to article)

3- Raise a portion of your own food by planting a garden. Consider planting fruit & nut trees and berry bushes if you have the room. If you live in an apartment or condo, consider participating in a nearby community garden or starting one. (link to article) (link to article) (link to article)

4- Make improvements to your home’s energy efficiency to reduce the impact of high energy inflation. (link to article)

5- Take steps to improve your vehicle’s mileage to reduce the impact of rising gasoline prices. Consider trading to a more fuel efficient vehicle. (link to article)

6- Take care of your health so that you are less likely to need expensive medical treatment. (link to article) (link to article)

7- Think about you and your family’s personal security. Crime and even civil unrest are likely to increase. Take steps now to protect yourself and your family. Pay close attention to preventing identity theft. (link to article)

8- Investing in gold, silver and other commodities could be quite profitable during a period of very high inflation. Gold & silver investing should be on your “to do” list, but it should be near the bottom after you’ve taken care of other fundamental areas first. Remember, wealth is not wealth if you owe it to someone else. (link to article) (link to article)

National Hurricane Preparedness Week - Resources

By Timothy Gamble

This week, May 9-15, 2021, is National Hurricane Preparedness Week. Although there are no hurricanes or tropical storms developing right now, hurricane season (June to November) is fast approaching. Here are some resources to help you prepare for the upcoming hurricane season:

National Hurricane Preparedness - Great hurricane preparedness information on the National Weather Service website.

Tropical Weather Outlooks - Forecasts and tracking maps for hurricanes, cyclones, and tropical storms for both the Atlantic and Pacific, by the National Hurricane Center

Downloadable Graphic and Forms (link opens a .pdf) - Download an Emergency Supply Kit graphic and Family Communications Plan forms, courtesy of International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC).

Hurricane Safety - Hurricane preparedness and safety information on the Red Cross website.

A quick, no frills, down & dirty guide to preparing for the End - My article giving an outline for general preparedness. It is not specific to hurricanes, but does make an excellent starting point for those new to preparedness.
