Gear

Dear Shadow Tribe,

Some folks have expressed interest in what gear I actually own, use, and recommend. Here is a list. Tailor your gear to your needs. Using my Amazon and other affiliate links helps support this website at no extra cost to you. Thank You!

EDC Gear
  • Phone: Samsung (better phones, less money than I-Phones -- sorry Apple Acolytes -- also better privacy and less woke) Amazon link.
  • Key Chain Flashlight: Nitecore Tiki -- been using this one for about 4 years no problems. Amazon link.
  • Belt: WYuZe Nylon Military Web Belt -- been wearing these exclusively since at least 2018. Broke one buckle in eight years, otherwise no problems. Amazon link.
  • Wallet: Maxpedition Gear Urban Wallet -- love this wallet! bought my first one in ~2014. Now on my second. Typically carry in cargo pocket, or front pocket when wearing jeans. Amazon link.
  • Multi-Tool: Leatherman. My particular one is no longer made, but I've been carrying it on my belt since 2007. Fantastic tool often used. Amazon link.
  • Lighter: Bic. I don't smoke, but always carry one. Fire = useful. Amazon link.

Pocket Knives

I have several folders that I like and rotate in my EDC depending on what I'm doing that day or just my mood.
  • Old Timer Traditional Pocket Knife: Perfect for around the house, opening Amazon packages, and so forth... Amazon link.
  • Cold Steel Finn Wolf: More heavy-duty than the Old Timer. Love this knife. Amazon link.
  • Victorinox Swiss Army Knife: I actually have several styles, but my go to is the "Hiker" edition. Amazon link.
  • Kershaw Black-Oxide BlackWash Finish: I love the look and feel of this knife, but honestly it is the heaviest on this list so it doesn't get carried as often. Amazon link.

Survival Knife

Fixed-blade, heavy-duty, multi-purpose knife, including self-defense so it should have finger guards and no-slip handle. For a discussion on survival knives plus more recommendations, see this article
  • Ontario Knife Company 499 Air Force Survival Knife: My favorite fixed blade. Flat-end handle for hammering. Amazon link.
  • GERBER Prodigy Survival Knife: Larger than the Air Force survival knife, which is a good or bad thing depending on circumstances. Glass-breaker on end of handle. Amazon link.

Note: More Gear recommendations to come. Check back often!
