If you haven't checked the news lately, major events may be brewing in the Middle East, potentially sparking global ripple effects. U.S. embassies across the region are evacuating non-essential personnel and family members. This could signal anything from diplomatic caution to a prelude to conflict, like a U.S. strike on Iran. The reasons are beyond our control, but our preparedness is not. With only days — or possibly hours — to act, extensive preparations may be out of reach. If you've been prepping, you're ahead of the game. If not, here are critical steps you can still take:
- Top Off Your Gas Tanks: I filled both my vehicles today and won't drive tomorrow or over the weekend. I also keep two 5-gallon gas cans, rotated regularly. If war disrupts fuel supplies or spikes prices, I’m ready.
- Secure Your Water Supply: If you lack storage, grab bottled water tonight or tomorrow. Fill pots, pitchers, and your bathtub. If you have an emergency tub bladder (Amazon link), fill it by Friday night.
- Stock Up on Food: Hit the store for milk, bread, eggs, fruit, and canned goods to bolster your pantry.
- Stay Informed: Download a breaking news app and enable notifications. Get an emergency radio — Walmart has them, or overnight one (Amazon link).
- Review Your Bug-Out Plan: Ensure your Bug-Out Bag is packed and discuss plans with your group.
- Stick with Your Tribe: Keep family and friends close this weekend. Run a preparedness drill, have a cook-out, or host a game or movie night.
- Leave the Megacity Early: If you're in a big city, it is time to consider visiting friends or relatives in a small town for the weekend.
- Check Your Communication Plan: Confirm how you'll contact extended family or friends. Set up a phone tree. If cell networks overload, texting or email may still work.
Hopefully, this is a false alarm, but it’s a perfect chance to test your preparedness. If it’s not, these steps could make all the difference. Stay sharp, stay ready. And share your war prep tips in the comments below.
