Ever lent a tool and gotten it back rusty, damaged, or not at all? I’ve been there—a socket set returned missing pieces, a hammer with a broken claw, no explanation or apology. It’s enough to make you swear off lending tools, especially your pricey, high-quality ones. But being a good neighbor or friend means helping out, right? So, how do you balance generosity with protecting your beloved tools? My solution: create a “lending toolbox.” Fill it with cheap, no-name hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, and saws. Some can be old or low-quality tools culled from your main collection. Others can be bargain-bin finds from dollar stores, Walmart, or yard sales. They’re good enough to get the job done but won’t break your heart (or wallet) if they’re lost or damaged. Meanwhile, your premium tools stay safe and sound for when you need them. Be helpful, build goodwill, and keep your best gear protected. It’s a win-win! ❗Check out my article: Your First Tool Kit: A Beginner's Guide to DIY Survival with a Dash of Fun
