Here is some good news: It is late May, but there is still time to plant a garden!
Some hot weather crops to consider planting in your backyard this time of year include tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, watermelons, and cantaloupes. Many herbs, such as oregano, basil, chives, and rosemary, can also be planted now. (Link to herb seeds on Amazon)
Even a small garden will go a long way to helping you and your family deal with very high inflation and the potential food shortages we are facing. Besides, it is good exercise and a great stress reliever!
If you live in an apartment or condo, you could try growing some food in containers on your patio or balcony. Tomatoes and peppers are perfect container plants! And many herbs and microgreens can be grown indoors.
