4 Recommended "Beginner Books" for Preparedness

By Tim Gamble

The following books are especially great for beginners to prepping, but are still useful to more seasoned preppers. They also make great gifts for family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers. There are, of course, lots of other good books for preppers and survivalists, but this is a good list for those just starting the journey.

Survivalist Family: Prepared Americans for a Strong America, by Pastor Joe Fox (aka Viking Preparedness), is a great guide to beginner and intermediate preparedness and survival for both short-term disasters and long-term emergencies. Highly recommended!!!

How to Survive the End of the World as We Know It: Tactics, Techniques, and Technologies for Uncertain Times, by James Wesley, Rawles. Rawles is a well-known name within the survivalist community, and this book gives coverage of most topics within survivalism and prepping, not just food storage and bugging out. Sometimes the author uses a bit too much jargon, but this book is still accessible by those new to prepping.

ACEP First Aid Manual, 5th Edition - Everyone, prepper or not, should learn first aid. This first aid manual of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) is much more up-to-date (2014) than the American Red Cross manual, which hasn't been updated since 1992. I consider this a CORE BOOK for all preppers.

The Survival Medicine Handbook: THE essential guide for when medical help is NOT on the way, by Dr. Joe Alton and Nurse Amy Alton. This is the second medical book to buy after a good first aid handbook (see above). I consider this a CORE BOOK for most preppers.
